Family values are deep-rooted in Azerbaijan, and have been passed down from generation to generation since time immemorial. Care of youngsters, and respect for the elderly are cherished traditions in our country.
On June 20, First Vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva and Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva visited Social Service Institution No.2 for children with impaired health condition in Saray settlement of Absheron district.
Mehriban Aliyeva and Leyla Aliyeva met with children at the social service institution, became familiarized with their living conditions, as well as social and rehabilitation services provided to the children.
Mehriban Aliyeva and Leyla Aliyeva viewed an exhibition comprised of children’s handicrafts.
One of the rehabilitation works carried out towards removing functional shortages of children with impaired health condition, and advancing their abilities, is development of their creative potential. Children make various handicrafts using beads and plasticine, and engage in constructor games. Inhabitants of the institution presented their handicrafts to Mehriban Aliyeva and Leyla Aliyeva.
This institution was reconstructed in 2010 with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. At the moment, 170 children, aged 5 to 18, are residing here. They mostly suffer from such diseases as cerebral palsy, autism, down syndrome, impaired physical and mental capacity, damage to the central nerve system – encephalopathy, and paresis.
Mehriban Aliyeva inquired about the condition of the inhabitants of the social service institution, witnessing positive results of their treatments. So, one of the inhabitants of the institution – Khayala Huseynova, while talking to Mehriban Aliyeva, said “Disability is not a defect, and there may be no restriction to living and creating”, both in Azerbaijani and English. Mehriban Aliyeva listened to children’s wishes, wished them successes, saying she would visit them again. Mehriban Aliyeva read a book together with children, and discussed pictures in the book. Children demonstrated their skills to Mehriban Aliyeva and Leyla Aliyeva. Saying that this year was declared “The Year of Nasimi”, they read poems of the poet, sang songs, and danced.
12 rehabilitation rooms are functioning at the social service institution, and new rehabilitation methods that are considered priority methods at the contemporary time, such as active therapy, game, intercourse, music, dance and other types of therapy are performed in them, and works are carried out with every child based on an individual development plan.
At the end, gifts from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation were presented to the institution.
