Presentation of the project “Advocating inclusive education through traditional art” took place, June 28^th.

Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva attended the event.

The project is being implemented in the framework of the programme “Modernization of the education system in Azerbaijan through involving the civil society and application of inclusive education”, being implemented by the UN Development Programme, financed by the European Union. Main partners of the project are the Icherisheher State History and Architecture Reserve Department and the Education Ministry. Cooperation will take place, in the framework of the project, with the Icherisheher Art School, as well as secondary schools and special schools in Baku City. The primary objective of the project is to make the Icherisheher Traditional Art Centre accessible to the youth with impaired health as a component of inclusive education, and create a Vocational Training Centre according to the requirements of the labour market.

It was brought to attention that teachers and artisans involved in this project will be provided with necessary knowledge and skills to teach youth with impaired health together with other pupils. Their awareness on the principles of inclusive education will be augmented through local and international trainings.

The main target groups of the project are young people with impaired health condition who have received formal education at special schools and are interested in participating in vocational education programme on inclusive art and craftsmanship, as well as trainers participating in the education process, those giving special education, the staff of Icherisheher Traditional Art Centre, and the pilot schools selected.
