President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin presents the “Pushkin” Medal to Leyla Aliyeva
On September 14, First Vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva was on a visit to the districts of Shamakhy and Ismailli.
As in all regions of the country, building, renovation and reconstruction works are continuing in Shamakhy too. Economic and social projects of significant importance are commissioned in the republic one after another. One of them is a newly constructed building of the Secondary School named after Gulagha Aghayev in Melikchobanly village of Shamakhy.
First Vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva and her daughter Leyla Aliyeva attended the school’s inauguration.
First Vice-president Mehriban Aliyeva became familiarized with the conditions created in the school building.
Mehriban Aliyeva: Is it true thatthere one school in Melikchobanly village ?
Director Saftar Heydarov: Yes, one school.
Mehriban Aliyeva: For how many pupils?
Saftar Heydarov: For360 pupils. It was constructed in 1976, and became operationally useless.
Mehriban Aliyeva: As a result of the earthquake, it was damaged further.
Saftar Heydarov Yes.
Mehriban Aliyeva: Residents submitted an appeal.
Saftar Heydarov: Thank You very much. We applied to You. A three-storied building designed for 460 pupils was constructed following your instruction, and was provided with all furniture and equipment. Greenery has been laid out on the territory.
Mehriban Aliyeva: Apparently, the number of schoolchildren too has increased.
Saftar Heydarov: Yes. We had children studying at other schools. Having seen the new conditions, most of them returned.
Mehriban Aliyeva: Please congratulate parents and schoolchildren on my behalf on the commencement of the new school year and, of course, on the inauguration of the new and beautiful school building. Convey my big respect and greetings to them.

The Heydar Aliyev Foundation has been implementing projects in the field of education called “A new school for new Azerbaijan” and “Support to education”. These projects aim at creating education complexes meeting modern standards on a country scale, and supporting the implementation of the education policy by the state. 4447 schools have been operating in the republic at the moment. In general, construction of 25 school buildings, basic reconstruction of 9 schools, current repair of 253 schools, and commissioning of 50 module-type schools designed for 3520 pupils in 24 districts are planned to carry out throughout the republic. Commissioning of this modern education institution is the best present for villagers of Melikchobanly on the eve of the new school year.
