On February 21, Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), founder and head of IDEA Public Association Leyla Aliyeva met with new Director General of FAO Qu Dongyu.
At the meeting held at the headquarters of FAO in Rome, Leyla Aliyeva first congratulated Qu Dongyu on the appointment to this office, and wished him successes in his future activities.
During the meeting were discussed such topics as perspectives of sustainable development of agriculture in Azerbaijan, endeavours by FAO in this direction, as well as enlightenment on environment, responsible production of healthy agricultural products, and bilateral cooperation on the advancement of villages.
Leyla Aliyeva highly appreciated the significant projects implemented by FAO in Azerbaijan on agriculture, forestry and fish-breeding, thanking for the contribution made in Azerbaijan to the development of these fields.
Qu Dongyu, in turn, noted Azerbaijan’s important role, as a leading state in the region, in the implementation of Sustainable Development Targets of the UN.
Discussions were held also over the execution of the global target “Zero Famine”, quality and shortage of drinking water, holding an exchange of thoughts on removing famine and ensuring food safety in the world.
At the end of the meeting, Leyla Aliyeva invited FAO Director General Qu Dongyu to come on a visit to Azerbaijan.
