On May 12, the foundation of Secondary School No.1 was laid in Shusha.
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, their daughters Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva attended the event.
The head of the state laid the foundation of the school.
President Ilham Aliyev was informed that the foundation of the first secular school in Azerbaijan and in the South Caucasus was laid here in 1830. In 1980, following the initiative of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the 150th anniversary of the school was celebrated. Having been operated as School No.1 until the occupation, this building was totally destroyed by Armenian vandals.
3 million Manats were allocated from the President’s reserve fund for the designing and construction of this school building, meant for 960 pupils.
