Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva became acquainted with the restoration works performed on a series of historical monuments in Gobustan and Shamakhy.
While visiting the tomb “Diri Baba” in Gobustan, Leyla Aliyeva was informed that the tomb, related to the 15th century, was distinguished for its originality in the whole Caucasus. For centuries, the tomb “Diri Baba” has been known to the people of Azerbaijan as a sacred site. This historical monument was restored in 2022 according to President Ilham Aliyev’s instruction. Research works were carried out in the cemetery and caves around the monument. Moreover, necessary infrastructure has been created here to make sure the monument can be visited by tourists.
Leyla Aliyeva also visited the Kalakhana tombs in Shamakhy. Archaeological research workson the tombs were finalized in 2022. As a result of the archaeological researches was found out that the history of the tombs and buildings on the territory went back to the 12th century. Restoration and conservation works are being carried out at the moment on the Kalakhana tombs by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Culture, and the Shamakhy District Executive Authority.
Recent years, restoration and conservation works were performed, enjoying the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, on Shahkhandan tomb, Pirsaat shrine complex, as well as other historical, religious and cultural monuments.
During her visit to Shamakhy, Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva met with the family of martyr-sculptor Samir Kachayev. Samir Kachayev heroically died during the April battles of 2016. He was posthumously awarded the medal “For Heroism” by a Resolution of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
Leyla Aliyeva also met with residents of various villages in Shamakhy.
