On October 24, an event dedicated to the birthday of great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Husein Javid took place at the National Dramatic Theatre of Azerbaijan, with the demonstration of the show “Devil and... “.

Before the show, a short film dedicated to Husein Javid - by Honoured Person of Art, laureate of State Prize Mehriban Alakbarzadeh - was demonstrated.

Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva and Director of the Heydar Aliyev Center Anar Alakbarov attended the presentation of the show.

Made on the basis of the motives of the tragedy “Devil” by Husein Javid, the show’s genre is a philosophical deconstructive metadrama.

The stage director of the new work is laureate of State Prize, Honoured Person of Art Mehriban Alakbarzadeh, with production designer being Honoured Worker of Culture Ilham Asgerov, costume designer Vusal Rahim, lighting designer Rafael Hasanov, composer Azer Hajiasgerli, consultant Honoured Worker of Culture Azer Turan, and assistant directors Narmin Hasanova and Jeyran Basharan.

Honoured artists Ayshad Mammadov and Anar Heybatov (devil), Elnar Garayev (heir to devil-1), Elshan Jabrailov (heir to devil-2), actors Murad Ismayil (Arif), Elsever Rahimov (Vasif), Honoured Artist Vefa Rzayeva (Rena), actor Elchin Efendi (Ibn Yamin), Honoured Artist Elshan Rustamov (Elkhan), People’s Artist Kazym Abdullayev (Ikhtiyar Sheikh), actors Lale Suleymanova (Khaver), Vusal Mustafayev (Vasif’s friend), Elchin Nuraliyev (Chavush, Haydut) and Tural Ibrahimov (Kanuni, Haydut) acted in the show.

Studied both in the West and the East, the attractive theme of devil has been solved in a unique way in the creativity of Husein Javid, by the concept of Creator. Husein Javid presents the concept of human, devil and Creator in a unique way. His thoughts of human, devil and Creator have been great inner strength, and the essence of his creativity. This show may be called deconstruction on the basis of Husein Javid’s work “Devil”, and “Devil and...” based on the motives of the work “Devil”.

The direction line of the four-act tragedy (a single metadrama in the deconstruction) changes and focuses on the line of Creator-devil and human only. The objective is directed to the devil, and the factor stemming from it to human. In short, the fate of people who have sold their soul to devil is described in the show “Devil”. And this is the victory of the devil.

The premiere of the show took place on September 3 and 4 at Alexandrinsky Theatre, Saint-Petersaburg. This is the first show to take place at the Alexandrinsky Theatre in the history of Azerbaijani theatre.
