Family values are deep-rooted in Azerbaijan, and have been passed down from generation to generation since time immemorial. Care of youngsters, and respect for the elderly are cherished traditions in our country.
On April 15, inauguration of a group exhibition entitled “The Sea Back in the Days”took place at the 20-21st Centuries Azerbaijani Painting Museum of YARAT Modern Art Centre. Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of IDEA Public Association Leyla Aliyeva and founder of YARAT Modern Art Centre, artist Aida Mahmudova familiarized themselves with the exhibition.
Works on painting, graphics, photography, video and installation by Azerbaijani artists were showcased at the exhibition.
Curator of the exhibition Zahra Mammadova informed that the exhibition studies psychological, cultural and archetypal relations formed between the Caspian Sea and people who have for centuries lived around it. She underscored that the main idea of the exhibition related to the notion of “sea epistemology” put forward by Hawaiian researcher Karin Ingersoll.
Works by artists related to different generations, such as Nadir Eminov, Baba Aliyev, Museyib Amirov, Enver Asgerov, Latif Feyzullayev, Huseyn Hagverdiyev, Mirnaib Hasanoghlu, Gunduz Hunlar, Zakir Huseynov, Farhad Khalilov, Fikret Ibrahimli, Ulviyya Iman, Nadir Gasymov, Novruz Mammadov, Ogtay Mirgasymov, Alexander Mishon, Elvin Nabizadeh, Elnara Nasirli, Maral Rahmanzadeh, Rais Rasulzadeh, Ali Rza, Aliya Bayramova & Timur Zaripov, Mirnadir Zeynalov, and CHINGIZ are showcased at the exhibition.
A panel discussion was also held, within the event, on the theme “the shadow of the Caspian Sea” with participation of curator and writer Darya Yucel, independent curator and founder of “Artcom” platform Aigerim Kapar, and artist CHINGIZ.
At the end of the event, demonstration of the documentary “The Sea” shot in 1965 by People’s Artist Ogtay Mirgasymov took place.
Speaking before the demonstration of the film, Director of the State Film Fund of Azerbaijan, Honoured Person of Art Jamil Guliyev noted that examples breathing new life into documentaries had emerged in the 60s of the last century. These films have their own poetic world. The film “The Sea” is also a produce of this time.
