The 6th International Environmental Project Olympiad (Inepo-Euroasia) was held in Baku on April 6-7.
The Olympiad aims to motivate student awareness of the global environment, to work proactively to maintain the health and viability of the environment, improve environmental consciousness, involve young people in environmental projects, and call on them to safeguard natural, cultural, historical, and socio-esthetic values.
The INEPO, which was held for the first time in 2007 with participation of schoolchildren from 17 countries, brought together more than 400 students from 42 countries of the world this year including Azerbaijan, Turkey, Georgia, Indonesia, Lithuania, Thailand, Laos, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, United Kingdom, Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Turkmenistan, Romania, Afghanistan, Albania, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Vietnam, Yemen, Somali, Angola, Bulgaria, Zambia, Niger, Turkish Republic Of Northern Cyprus, Egypt, Mongolia, Mozambique, Czech Republic and Belgium. 130 of 350 projects submitted from foreign countries and 60 of 294 submitted by Azerbaijan were assessed by the jury. Azerbaijan won 4 Gold, 12 Silver and 17 Bronze medals.
The Olympiad organizers and jury presented Special International Honorary Award for Environmental Protection - founded this year upon the proposal of the winners - to Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder of International Dialogue on Environmental Action Initiative Mrs Leyla Aliyeva.
