Family values are deep-rooted in Azerbaijan, and have been passed down from generation to generation since time immemorial. Care of youngsters, and respect for the elderly are cherished traditions in our country.
On September 30, Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva visited Special Boarding School No.12 for children with limited health condition in Shuvalan settlement of Khazar district, Shuvalan summer camp of Nizami district’s Children Home No.1, Nursery No.1 in Nasimi district, Psychoneurological Children’s Home in Narimanov district and the Association of People with Down syndrome.
Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva first visited the special boarding school.
Children with the sign of cerebral palsy are educated in this school, which has been functioning since 1969. Major repair works have been done at this school in 2010, following the initiative of Azerbaijan’s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva. 141 children aged 6 to 14 from all districts of the republic are educated here.

Then Leyla and Arzu Aliyevas arrived at the summer camp of Children Home No.1 in Nizami district.

Major repair works have been done at the camp in 2013, the area improved. A new, modern stadium has been built here, the pool reconstructed, and high level conditions have been created for children’s leisure.

Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva then visited Nursery No.1 in Nasimi district.
Following the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s initiative, major repair and reconstruction works have been done in 2005 in this building constructed in 1930.

It was informed that 39 children aged up to 3 years grow up here. They pass regular medical examination.

Leyla and Arzu Aliyevas then visited the Psychoneurological children’s home in Narimanov district of Baku.
Psychology, aromatherapy, oculist, neuropsychiatrist, neuropathologist, logopedist (speech therapist), paediatrician, ultrasonic examination and physical therapy rooms are functioning in this medical establishment, which was reconstructed in 2009 with support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. A team of up to 90 medical, pedagogical and service people are engaged here in treatment and education of 103 children.

Then Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva visited the Association of People with Down Syndrome, first in the South Caucasus.
The primary objective of the Association is social and cultural rehabilitation of people with Down syndrome, as well as their family members, and their integration into the society.
Talking with children with Down syndrome, Leyla Aliyeva was informed that 96 children and teenagers are spending their time here efficiently. “Dajallar” theatre, dance and painting study groups, as well as a cookery school are functioning under the Association.
Soon a new building will be commissioned for the Association of People with Down Syndrome in the territory of Nizami district, following the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s initiative.
