President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin presents the “Pushkin” Medal to Leyla Aliyeva
The social awareness project IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Action) and the contemporary arts venue YARAT! have established a new joint project titled “Trash Into Art”.
As part of the project, on December 16th this year more than 3000 used plastic bottles were collected on Sameda Vurguna Street in Baku – and turned into a decorative Christmas Tree.
The tree was created by two world-famous British artists, known for creating artworks from waste materials – Nicola Blake Sayers, and Glendon Michael Casey. Their works have been exhibited with great interest all over the world – in the USA, Scotland, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and many other countries. A large number of volunteers took part in the project.
The artwork Christmas Tree is seven metres high – with a diameter of 4.2 metres. The idea behind creating it shows its possible to make a completely artificial Christmas Tree, without cutting down trees from pineforests or parks, or causing similar damage to the environment – and take an alternative view of things instead.
The bottles which were used in creating this decorative Christmas Tree were collected by the Pepsi Azerbaycan corporation.
