Inauguration of the exhibition “Fly to Baku. Contemporary Art from Azerbaijan”, which was organized with joint organizational support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and “Baku” magazine and demonstrated in six countries of the world to date, took place at the Heydar Aliyev Center, December 27, 2013.
Azerbaijan’s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva and Vice-president of the Foundation, ideological author of the project ”Fly to Baku” Leyla Aliyeva attended the opening ceremony.
The exhibition “Fly to Baku. Contemporary Art from Azerbaijan” has been of significant importance in terms of promoting Azerbaijan’s modern art in the world. Being dominated by avant-garde ideas, these art works talk about the specific features of modern Azerbaijani art.
Addressing the event attended by state and government representatives, deputies of the Milli Majlis, and influential guests, ideological author of the project Leyla Aliyeva said:
- Dear Guests.
I would like to welcome you with all my heart, and am very pleased to see you at the Heydar Aliyev Center. This unique and nice building has become indeed a cultural hub. The Heydar Aliyev Center was inaugurated in 2012, and for a short span of time extended its activity. Concerts, exhibitions, various forums and meetings are held here.
This evening, we, together with you, are opening the exhibition “Fly to Baku”. This exhibition has been held during two years, and has promoted the culture of Azerbaijan around the world. It was held in six countries of Europe, and aroused much interest of people there. This exhibition will continue at the Heydar Aliyev Center for two months and, whereby, come to an end. I’m confident the exhibition will arouse great interest in Baku too. I wish you to enjoy the evening.
Saying that such exhibitions will be organized in future too, Leyla Aliyeva said supporting of young artists’ projects will be continued. The ideological author of the project underlined that the exhibition was a good opportunity in terms of demonstrating works of modern artists of Azerbaijan.”
Greeting the attendees of the event, curator of the exhibition “Fly to Baku. Contemporary Art from Azerbaijan” Erve Mikaeloff said he was honoured to have participated in the inauguration and the project as a whole. Noting he was pleased with the exhibition’s being successful, Erve Mikaeloff said there will be more such projects in future.
Then they acquainted themselves with the exhibition.
Over 100 works of 21 artists working in painting, sculpture, installation, video-art, performance and photo genres are displayed at the exhibition. Among them, there were also works by Leyla Aliyeva, the Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
With its special significance among the events held by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation towards promoting Azerbaijan in the world, this exhibition was first opened in London in January 2012. Organized in Paris, Berlin, Moscow, Rome and Vienna during two years, the exhibition aroused great interest in local residents.
Final exhibition “Flight to Baku. Modern Art of Azerbaijan” will continue through March 1, 2014.
