It is noted in the foreword that this book is the result of the discussions and thoughts of scholars from Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan and a number of other countries about the dialogue of cultures and its versatility and dynamics during the period of globalization: “Heydar Aliyev very well understood the necessity of international cooperation for the country’s successful development and emphasized friendly neighbourhood relations with Russia and other former Soviet republics. He was sure that development of national culture was closely related with the ability to master the best features of the world heritage. He very well knew that cultures of different peoples had unique element defining the possibilities of dialogue and consolidation in solving universal and global problems. Just for this reason, Azerbaijan is today considered one of the most tolerant countries of the world, a home to people with different religious, languages and traditions.”
It is emphasized in the foreword that relying on Heydar Aliyev’s statehood strategy meant, first of all, to confidently realize the modernization course, and successfully implement the conception “Azerbaijan 2020” providing development of communication means, cities and regions, and lifting population’s well-being. “Heydar Aliyev was confident that development of science was of significant importance for the society. All his life, he remained loyal to this belief, and thought scholars were a social stratum requiring special careful attention to them. The careful attention of the National Leader towards the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan – the primary wealth of our people – is exemplary in this terms.” – Leyla Aliyeva noted: “Today Heydar Aliyev is not among us, but his works and ideas are living. We have the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, which marked its 10th anniversary this year. The Foundation continues all the initiatives set by the national leader of the Azerbaijani people, and successfully implements them”.
