The torch of the First European Games arrived in Baku after travelling the districts of Azerbaijan and the Oil Rocks, June 7.

The torch was taken up by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at “Sadko” Port in the Seaside National Park. 

Along with President Ilham Aliyev, the ceremony was also attended by First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva and members of the family. 

President Ilham Aliyev took up the torch from oil worker Nahid Nuriyev.

The Head of the State handed over the torch of the First European Games to veteran of the Great Patriotic War Fatma Sattarova.

The next place where the torch travelled in Baku was the White City Boulevard.

Then People’s Artist Arif Babayev handed over the torch to Chairperson of the First European Games Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva.

Mehriban Aliyeva handed over the torch to winner of the Montreux International Jazz Festival, Honoured Artist, laureate of “Zirva” State Prize, pianist and composer Isfar Sarabski.

Then Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva carried the torch.

Arzu Aliyeva then took up the torch of Baku-2015 from Igbal Hajizadeh, a European champion for free-style wrestling, a gold medal winner of the 2nd Juvenile Summer Olympic Games.

Winner of the world and European championships for free-style wrestling Haji Aliyev handed over the torch to Heydar Aliyev.

Having passed through the State Flag Square and Baku Crystal Hall, the torch arrived at the Maiden Tower. Here, the torch was taken up from Namig Abdullayev, Vice-president of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation, an Olympic champion.

The torch was carried by 100 persons in a distance of 16 kilometres throughout the city.
