We've been setting this exhibition up for nearly two years. I believe that its language – the language of Art – eloquently conveys the great accomplishments our country has made in all spheres of achievement.
Opening of the Stone Annals Museum, a project by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, took place on the territory of the State Flag Square, June 8.
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva, and Vice-president of the Foundation Leyla Aliyeva visited the museum.
Built in 1921 and once provided for energy supply for oil fields, the building of a power station will operate as a museum after the restoration works are over.
The exposition of the Stone Annals Museum covers many types of stone plastic arts. Stone Annals exposition devoted to Azerbaijan’s stone plastic arts include, along with exhibits brought from Gobustan and Qala reserves, works by sculptor Hussein Hagverdy. At this exhibition, the sculptor presents a history he called “The Artery”. Along with many samples of stone plastic arts discovered in various corners of Azerbaijan, significant part of the ancient exhibits is comprised of different items with functional meaning and no decoration.
Epigraphic monuments are the most valuable source in studying history. Information that can rarely be seen in written sources are preserved in scripts on stones. Epigraphic scripts of different content are preserved in the exposition, and valuable exhibits of the memorial plastic arts are presented here. In general, original information is given about various public and political, social, cultural and ideological events of the Middle Ages on gravestones.
