6th International Maiden Tower Art Festival is launched in Baku
11/06/2015

6th International Maiden Tower Art Festival started in Icherisheher, June 11.

The Festival is held by Icherisheher State History and Architecture Reserve following the initiative and with support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and organizational support from IDEA Public Union, the Modern Art Museum, Maiden Tower Art Gallery and Baku-2015 First European Games Operating Committee.

Launched for the first time in 2010, held four years in Baku and once in the French city of Cannes, the Maiden Tower International Art Festival will take place this year for the 6th time. As a tradition, this year too, the Festival was arranged in Icherisheher, on the square before the Maiden Tower. The primary objective of holding this festival is to contribute to promoting Azerbaijan’s culture and art, as well as popularization of the Maiden Tower – a symbol of Baku – throughout the world via artists coming around the world.

During the Festival, artists create works reflecting synthesis and mutual exchange of different cultures and traditions, by decorating mock-ups of the Maiden Tower   in their national styles. This festival is joined by some 30 well-known artists from over 10 countries of the world.

At the end of the Festival, which will continue until June 14, mock-ups of the Maiden Tower, pomegranate and gazelle will first be displayed in Icherisheher for residents of Baku and guests of the capital, then they will be demonstrated in various countries of the world to promote Azerbaijan, its history and culture.
