An event dedicated to the Khojaly genocide takes place in Nijniy Novgorod

A commemorative event dedicated to the 24th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide took place in the city of Nijniy Novgorod, Russia.

Holding of the international campaign “Justice for Khojaly” - founded in 2008 following the initiative of Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva - this year on the Russian territory started with the first event in Nijniy Novgorod.

Held with organizational support of the Azerbaijani Youth Organization of Russia (AYOR) and regional divisions of the All-Russian Azerbaijanis Congress (ARAC) for Nijniy Novgorod Region, the commemorative event started with remembering the memory of the victims of the genocide with a minute’s silence.

In his speech, head of AYOR’s Nijniy Novgorod Representative Office Roman Aghayev talked about the savagery committed by Armenian aggressors against civilians, informing the attendees of the essence of the Khojaly genocide. The head of the Diaspora noted that the international campaign “Justice for Khojaly” does not aim at taking vengeance, it, rather seeks to secure the triumph of justice: “I am hopeful this campaign, held on a high level under the leadership and with direct involvement of Leyla Aliyeva in a number of countries throughout the world, will, in Russia too, lead to recognizing the Khojaly tragedy as a genocide.”

Attendees showed special interest towards the photo-slide made within the framework of the international campaign “Justice for Khojaly”.

Then member of AYOR’s supervisory and revision committee Ruslan Eyvazov conducted presentation of the international campaign “Justice for Khojaly” and talked about the history and phases of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Daghlyg Garabagh conflict. He listed successful outcomes of this campaign from the perspective of recognizing the Khojaly tragedy as an act of genocide, and widely informing the world community thereof.

Those delivering a speech at the event emphasized the role of the campaign being conducted under the leadership of Leyla Aliyeva, the vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, both in conveying the true facts about Garabagh and the realities of Azerbaijan. It was underscored that for this campaign to have success, Azerbaijanis have to join their efforts and be active in every field.

Publications and multimedia products of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation demonstrated at the event in connection with the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Daghlyg Garabagh conflict provoked attendees’ interest.

At the end of the event, the documentary “Khojaly Genocide”, made with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, was shown.
