President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin presents the “Pushkin” Medal to Leyla Aliyeva
Speeches by the heads of “round tables” in the framework of the 5th Baku International Humanitarian Forum, to be held on September 30, were heard.
Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), founder and head of IDEA Public Union Leyla Aliyeva, who is going to chair the “round table” on the topic “Sustainable Development And Ecological Civilization”, attended the event.
Speaking at the event, Leyla Aliyeva gave information about Azerbaijan’s history, culture and nature, underscored our country’s location at the crossroads of the East and West, on the historical Silkway, and said this factor has had an impact on the formation of Azerbaijan’s rich culture.
It was mentioned that although protection of the environment has been the primary duty of governments, participation of non-government organizations, the youth in particular, is necessary. Information was given about the activities and achievements of IDEA Public Union, founded in 2011, including enlightenment of the youth, planting over 5 million trees in the country within the framework of the organization’s project, and measures taken towards protecting the biodiversity. It was noted that the slogan of IDEA “One Planet-One Future” has united the youth around itself not only in Azerbaijan, but also those living beyond its boundaries.
It was brought to attention that losses of the nature are measured not in months, or years, but in minutes, and destruction of the biodiversity as a result of human’s activity was talked about. Leyla Aliyeva talked about the initiative “Zero Famine” by FAO, of which she is a goodwill ambassador. She noted that all states need to act together, joining their efforts, in order to remove poverty and famine, which has already become a global challenge, in particular, to ensure that children do not suffer from food shortage and thirst.
Leyla Aliyeva called on everybody to use natural resources in an efficient manner and be careful towards nature in order to secure a green and safe nature for the generations to come.
