On October 2, the “Music in Stone” 1st International Sculpture Symposium, held with the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s organizational support in Baku, came to an end.
Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva made herself familiarized with the works created in the framework of the Symposium.
14 sculptors participated in the event - which started on September 24 - from Azerbaijan, Spain, Hungary, Italy, France, Bulgaria, Mexico, India, Georgia and Macedonia.
They worked in the open air in Qala Settlement and created various works on local natural stone (Shamkir’s sandstone, Absheron’s limestone).
There was no limitations imposed on the sculptors; they were free to express themselves. The art people created works on the themes “love”, “love for life” etc. From this standpoint, such works as “Beginning” (Space) by Faraj Rahmanov, “Obelisk” by Hasan Hagverdiyev, “Voyeur” by Novruz Mammadov, “Rhythm” and “Reflection” by Tural Rzaguliyev (Azerbaijan), “NEXUS” by Miguel Isla (Spain), “Head” by Daniel Ludvig, “Balance” by Beata Rostas (Hungary), “Birdmen” by Milena Mladenova (Bulgaria), “King” by Francisco Javier Astorga (Mexico), “Indian King”, “Fire” by Jahurul Islam (India), “My East” by Genadi Zakaraia (Georgia), “Join” by Sasho Sazdovski (Macedonia), “Lock” by Janine Kortz-Waintrop (France) and “Balance of Chaos N3” by Giuseppe Strano (Italy) may be mentioned.
Sculpture is one of the most ancient types of fine arts, and in Azerbaijan, this art goes back to times immemorial. Back in the ancient times, various natural stones with distinct features and colours used to be mined in Azerbaijan. Plastic features of Absheron’s limestone, Garabagh’s river-stone and black marble, Shamkir’s yellowish-white sandstone define uniqueness of the local sculpture and its decorative patterns.
Works created within the Symposium will be displayed in one of the parks of Baku city.
According to the plan, the event will be held annually and an open air museum – a sculptural park – will be created using the works created by sculptures from different countries.
The “Music in Stone” 1st International Sculpture Symposium was organized within the framework of the 7th ”Maiden Tower” International Art Festival.
