The international conference ‘Interaction Of Cultures In Globalization’ was held in Moscow, in memory of national leader of the Azeri people Heydar Aliyev. Organized jointly by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Moscow Office, the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Global Processes Faculty of the M.V.Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and the Russian Philosophy Society on National Salvation Day (June 15th ) the event was attended by outstanding scholars of Russia and Azerbaijan.

Opening the event - which took place at the Conference Hall of the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences - the Director of the Institute, Academician Abduselim Huseynov assessed the conference as a greatly significant event, and stressed the importance of global issues on the agenda. Mrs Leila Aliyeva - the Head of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Moscow Office - noted that the nation of Azerbaijan celebrates the 15th of June as the National Salvation Day.

Mrs Aliyeva said: ‘After restoring independence Azerbaijan faced serious economic and political problems. Azerbaijan - which was in economic decline - suffered military aggression from Armenia, and was on the edge of civil war. The long-awaited independence ago was endangered. The situation was only radically improved after Heydar Aliyev returned to power on June 15, 1993. A cornerstone of the sovereign state of Azerbaijan was laid. Heydar Aliyev devoted all his life to his country - his motherland - and thanks to his wise policies Azerbaijan is now developing and blossoming. Azerbaijan is a world leader for several years for its rate of economic development - huge regional projects are implemented in the country in field of transport, energy, and social problems are being solved. In short, development covers all spheres of life in Azerbaijan.

Although Heydar Aliyev is no longer with us physically, independent Azerbaijan lives on after him - the work the national leader dedicated his whole life to. His ideas live, and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, which celebrated its fifth anniversary this year, lives. During these five years, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation has acquired the trust and support of almost all sections of the Azerbaijani nation. The Foundation functions today not only in Azerbaijan, but in many different countries too, and it continues the generous works started by Heydar Aliyev.

I am honored that today’s conference - on the theme of interaction of cultures in globalization - is dedicated to the memory of Heydar Aliyev. Azerbaijan has a unique geopolitical position, and is a real bridge between East and West - being located on the ancient Silk Road which reflects both eastern and western cultures. For many centuries our nation has encouraged tolerance towards others. We deeply value our own traditions, and at the same time pay much respect to the various cultures of world countries. Today, Azerbaijan can be looked on as a model of tolerance in the world community. Today’s subject – globalization - is quite wide and ambiguous. But it is certain that the modern world integrates and globalization covers almost all countries and nations in the world. I am sure today’s conference will be very interesting and fruitful. It's especially fortuitous that today's conference coincides with the national holiday of Azerbaijan and I would like to see a symbolic character and good sense in this. I wish success to all participants in the conference’.

Ex-president of Kyrgyzstan - a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor of MSU Asger Akayev – gave a lecture titled ‘The Phenomenon of Personality as an Eternal Development Factor in the Interaction of Cultures’. Assessing the conference held in the Russian capital in memory of the glorious son of Azerbaijan as a remarkable event, Professor Akayev said that much in the life of Heydar Aliyev was linked to Moscow where he received strong support, and approbation in political and state actions yet at the same time faced hypocrisy and the unfairness of soviet leaders. With his humane and civic dignity, Heydar Aliyev accepted these difficulties stoically, and after returning to his native republic devoted all his strength, talent and knowledge to the nation of Azerbaijan. The scale of Heydar Aliyev's personality was so large that his intellectual and humane qualities were well known and assessed in the international arena.

Asger Akayev said: ‘I had occasion to meet Heydar Aliyev many times during the 10 years he ruled the newly-independent Azerbaijan. Even from our first meeting I was touched by his bright personality. At that time the Presidents of the newly-independent CIS countries were rather notorious for having achieved a carve-up of power amongst themselves – but I had a quite different impression of Heydar Aliyev. To me, Heydar Aliyev was a wise and farsighted elder who honourably overcame the obstacles and troubles that fell into his path. Around Heydar Aliyev there was always an atmosphere of real respect, and he merited his standing among the CIS political elite. Our countries have a lot of common. In Central Asia we always feel strong support and friendly help from Baku, and we gladly acknowledge this with gratitude.

I remember Heydar Aliyev as a person of deep encyclopedic knowledge, a true patron of talents. The real renaissance of Azeri literature, art and architecture is linked to his name. Heydar Aliyev's personality personified the friendship of our nations, and the eternal relations of our national cultures. The mission and goal of Heydar Aliyev’s life spanned both the soviet ad post-soviet eras. He set his country on the path of multilateral development, transformed a small republic into the major energy-state - the political influence of Azerbaijan commanded international importance. He left a rich legacy to his nation, an outstanding generation of able leaders -. President Ilham Aliyev, the gifted continuer of the Heydar Aliyev's work, is his successor’.

A distinguished gathering of scholars gave addresses, including: Faculty Dean at MSU, Doctor of History Georgi Alekseyev; Director of the Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Ilham Mammadzade; Dean of Global Processes Faculty of MSU Ilya Ilin; Head of Department at Moscow Tourism Academy of the Russian Government Olga Chistyakova; First Vice-President of the Russian Philosophy Society, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Alexander Chumakov; Head of Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry Diplomacy Academy, Professor Konstantin Dolgov PhD. Different aspects of globalization and the modern context of this notion, national-cultural diversity and the interaction of cultures, the role of personality in history and other issues were discussed in these talks.

The Conference ended in the adoption of a Resolution. The Resolution emphasizes the importance of the theme, suggests an annual event holding the Aliyev readings, also sociopolitical and philosophic readings in memory of national leader of Azeri people Heydar Aliyev.

Executive Director of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Anar Elekberov, delegates of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, All-Russian Azeris Congress and members of the younger generation also attended the conference.
