Family values are deep-rooted in Azerbaijan, and have been passed down from generation to generation since time immemorial. Care of youngsters, and respect for the elderly are cherished traditions in our country.
Dedicated to the 94th anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev, the “Tour d’Azerbaidjan-2017” International Cycling Tour came to an end. The start and finishing of the final stage of the 2.1 category competition took place on Azadlyg Square. This time, the participants have overcome the distance of 158 kilometres.
Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, Arzu Aliyeva and Vice-president of the Azerbaijan Weightlifting Federation Azer Aliyev attended the closing ceremony of the cycling tour.
Member of the team “Israel Cycling Academy” Chris Neilands became the winner of the final stage of the cycling tour. He, having finished the distance for 3 hours, 53 minutes and 56 seconds, made a solo-finish. Cyclists of Turkey’s “Torku Şekerspor” and USA’s “İlluminate” clubs Ahmet Örken and Edwin Avila, left behind for 21 seconds, took the 2nd and 3rd places.
Owners of the competition’s leader T-shirts remained unchanged–member of Azerbaijan’s Elite team Cyril Pozdnyakov, preserving the “Synergy” T-shirt meant for the winner of the general classification, became the winner of “Tour d’Azerbaidjan-2017”. Moreover, by his successful performance on mountainous roads, he owned red “AZAL” T-shirt given to the best mountain cyclist. As a result of all of these, Cyril was awarded by the special T-shirt meant for the best Azerbaijani cyclist.
Representative of the team “Illuminate” Edwin Avila, who had scored the highest point in the middle sprints, was awarded by green “SOCAR” T-shirt meant for the best sprinter. Member of “Delko Marseille Provance KTM” team of France Jean Anderson was awarded by violate “ATA HOLDING” T-shirt as the youngest cyclist. And in the team total, Ukraine’s “Kolss” team won the 1st place.
Cyclists were awarded by Vice-president of the National Olympic Committee Chingiz Huseynzadeh, Vice-president of the Azerbaijan Cycling Sport Federation, member of the European Cyclists Association’s Steering Committee Sahib Alakbarov, and Vice-president of the European Cyclists Association Alexander Gusyatnikov.
22 teams from 18 countries competed in “Tour d’Azerbaidjan-2017”. In this competition, “Synergy Baku” was represented by Elchin Asadov, Elgun Alizadeh, Samir Jabrailov, Yosip Rumach, Cyril Pozdnyakov and Anvar Asanov.
