On May 17, on the second day of the taekwondo competitions of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games, Azerbaijani sportsmen won four gold and one silver medal.
Patimat Abakarova, Aykhan Taghyzadeh, Milad Beigi Harchaghani and Radik Isayev won gold medals for Azerbaijan. Farida Azizova was awarded a silver medal.
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, President of the National Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev and First Lady, Chairperson of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games’ Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva and family members watched the finals of the competition.
Men in the 68, 80 kg and +87kg weight categories, women in 49, 67 and 73kg weight categories walked onto tatami at the Baku Sports Palace. Five Azerbaijani sportsmen competed for gold medals.
Our woman-taekwondo fighter Patimat Abakarova (49kg), defeating Aynur Yesbergenova from Kazakhstan with the score of 14:4, won the gold medal. And bronze medals went to Iranian sportswoman Shalmey Sudabe Poursadighi and Çidem İpek from Turkey.
Competing at the competitions of men-taekwondo fighters in the 68kg weight category, Aykhan Taghyzadeh took victory over Iranian sportsman Seyedhossein Ehsanipetroudi with the score of 9:8 in the finals. A representative of Saudi Arabia Saud Al Muwallad and Dingo Prayod from Indonesia were awarded bronze medals.
Our taekwondo fighter Milad Beigi Harchaghani (80kg) competed against Yunus Sari in the finals. Winning in a decisive match with the score of 9:5, our sportsman became a champion of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games. Alireza Darvishpur from Iran and Maksim Rafalovich from Uzbekistan took the bronze medals.
Azerbaijani taekwondo fighter Radik Isayev (+87kg) competed against Dmitri Shokin from Uzbekistan in the finals. The fight ended with the score of 8:8. Defeating his rival in the additional round to determine the winner with a “gold score”, R.Isayev rose to the highest step of 4th Islamic Solidarity Games’ rostrum. In this weight category, bronze medals went to Hamza Kattan from Jordan and Hossein Gorbanzadeh from Iran.
Champions in 80 and +87 weight categories Milad Beigi Harchaghani and Radik Isayev, and other sportsmen received medals from Ilham Aliyev, the Head of the State, the President of the National Olympic Committee.
The state anthem of Azerbaijan was played for our sportsmen-winners, and the state flag raised.
Our taekwondo fighter Farida Azizova was awarded the silver medal of the Islamiada. In the finals, having been defeated by Nur Tatara from Turkey, she took the silver medal. Bronze medals in this weight category went to Nigora Tursunkulova from Uzbekistan and Juliana Al Sadig from Jordan.
Competing on the first day of the taekwondo competitions, May 16, in the 57kg weight category, our representatives Yaprag Erish won the gold medal, while Gasym Magomedov (-54) was awarded silver.
