On May 18, competitions on Greco-Roman wrestling at the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games came to an end. Azerbaijani wrestlers finished the games with 4 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.
President of Azerbaijan, President of the National Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev and family members watched the finals of the competitions.
On the second day of the Greco-Roman wrestling competitions, held at the Heydar Aliyev Sports Arena, winners in four weight categories were determined.
Our wrestler Kamran Mammadov (66kg) competed against Janat Kilibayed from Kirgizstan in the finals. The competition ended ahead of time with the score of 9:0.
The Head of the State presented medals to sportsmen.
The state anthem of Azerbaijan was played in honour of our sportsman, and the state flag raised.
Competing in the 75kg weight category, Elvin Mursaliyev, taking victory over Turkish representative Furkan Bayrak in the finals with the score of 1:0, won the 54th gold medal to our national team.
Our wrestler Islam Abbasov (85kg), defeating Turkish representative Ali Cengiz in the finals, won a gold medal of “Baku-2017”.
In the 130kg weight category in the Greco-Roman wrestling competitions, our sportsman Sabah Shariati took the third place, defeating Raja Alkrada from Syria in a struggle for the bronze medal.
Thus, winning 4 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals in the Greco-Roman wrestling competitions, Azerbaijan’s national team took the first place, as team total, in the Islamiada.
