On May 19, freestyle wrestling competitions of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games started.
On the first day of the competitions held in the Heydar Aliyev Sports Arena, our wrestlers won 2 gold and 1 silver medal.
First Vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Chairperson of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games’ Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva and family members watched the finals.
On the first day of the freestyle wrestling competitions, winners in four weight categories were determined. Competing in the 57kg weight category, Mahir Amiraslanov, taking victory over representative of Kazakhstan Zhandos Ismayilov in the decisive fight, became a champion of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games. Turkish sportsman Nabi Uzun and Nodirjon Safarov from Uzbekistan took the silver and bronze medals, accordingly.
Nurmahammad Hajiyev, competing in the 97kg weight category, the brought second gold medal to our team. Defeating Iranian sportsman Amir Mohammadi with a big score in the finals, our wrestler won a gold medal of the Islamiada. Mamed Ibrahimov from Kazakhstan and Yusup Melajayev from Turkmenistan were awarded bronze medals in this weight category.
Medals to the winners in each weight category were presented by First Vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Chairperson of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games’ Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva.
The state anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played in honour of our sportsmen, and the state flag raised.
Azerbaijani wrestler Mahammad Muslimov (65kg), losing the fight to Iranian sportsman Meysam Nasiri in the finals, got the silver medal.
Thus, on the first day of the freestyle wrestling competitions, Azerbaijani sportsmen won 2 gold, 1 silver medal.
