President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin presents the “Pushkin” Medal to Leyla Aliyeva
First Vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva and Vice-president of the Foundation Leyla Aliyeva paid a visit to the Thalassemia Centre.
Mehriban Aliyeva was given information about the works carried out in the Centre, constructed in the framework of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s project “For life without thalassemia”, and about the treatment of patients.
Commissioned into operation in 2009, this Centre has played a significant role in the treatment of those suffering from this disease, providing moral support to patients and their relatives.
Reforms carried out in the Thalassemia Centre, works done towards improving the medical service provided to thalassemia patients, actions taken for the strengthening of the Centre’s material and technical basis have been playing a significant role in the treatment of thalassemia patients and, at the same time, preventing the disease.
In accordance with a relevant Resolution signed by the Azerbaijani President, the Republican Thalassemia Centre under the Health Ministry was granted the status of a public legal person, which is of importance in terms of extending the Centre’s activities and serving other blood disease patients, along with thalassemia patients.
Vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva and Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva talked with children being treated at the Centre, taking interest in the process of their treatment.
Mehriban Aliyeva noted that healthcare and social issues are priority matters in the activities of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and from this standpoint, the Foundation has been providing support for the treatment of thalassemia patients and works carried out on a state level aiming to enlighten on the prevention of this disease.
