Wrestling competitions started in the Olympic Games, 5 August. To support the Azerbaijani athletes, President of Azerbaijan, President of the National Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev, together with his family members, watched the Greco-Roman competitions. Azerbaijani wrestlers Rovshan Bayramov and Emin Ahmadov won silver and bronze medals respectively.

Following the Greco-Roman 55 and 74kg wrestling competitions, President Ilham Aliyev met with chief coach of the national Greco-Roman wrestling team of Azerbaijan Saleh Bora. Highly assessing the performances of the Azerbaijani wrestlers, the President requested the chief coach to deliver his congratulations to Rovshan Bayramov and Emin Ahmadov.
