On June 17, competitions on free style wrestling were held at the Heydar Aliyev Sports Palace within the framework of the 1^st European Games. President Ilham Aliyev, First Lady, Chairperson of the 1^st European Games Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva, and family members watched the finals.

First, Azerbaijani wrestler Toghrul Asgarov became a champion of the 1^st European Games, having defeated his rivals. By this victory of Olympic champion Toghrul Asgarov, number of gold medals won by Azerbaijan became 9. 

Then Khetag Gazyumov, an Azerbaijani wrestler, a twofold bronze medallist of the Olympic Games, world and European champion, won a gold medal in 97-kg weight category. By this victory, the number of gold medals gained by Azerbaijan reached the number of 10. 

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev presented medals to sportsmen-winners at the ceremony of presenting awards.
