President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin presents the “Pushkin” Medal to Leyla Aliyeva
On October 26, Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of IDEA Public Union Leyla Aliyeva met a specialist of the Blue Marine Foundation for marine biodiversity, Rory Moore, who has been on a visit to Azerbaijan.
As is well-known, a delegation led by Charles Clover, the chairperson of the Blue Marine Foundation - a world renowned organization of the Great Britain engaged in the protection of the marine environment - undertook a visit to Azerbaijan, following Leyla Aliyeva’s invitation, February this year. During the visit, ecological condition of the Caspian Sea was discussed, and an agreement was reached on involving leading specialists of the Blue Marine Foundation in rehabilitation of the Caspian fauna.
At the meeting, Leyla Aliyeva gave information about the works done and achievements reached by IDEA towards protection of the environment. Leyla Aliyeva expressed concern about the ecological condition of the Caspian Sea, especially, the degradation recently observed in its rich fauna, and emphasized the importance of benefiting from international practice, as a way out of the situation. For this purpose, IDEA has been maintaining close cooperation with leading international professionals specialized in marine environment.
Rory Moore underscored Azerbaijan’s being famous for its rich fish resources and, for this reason, the favourable potential existing in our republic to develop this area. The British specialist noted that, within his visit, he would analyse the fish resources in the Caspian Sea and inland waters, as well as the condition in the country’s fish industry, and, having prepared an extensive report thereof, would submit to IDEA Public Union. Recommendations will be reflected in the report on how to restore the Caspian Sea’s biodiversity. Rory Moore underscored the special significance of applying new technologies and using scientific methods to improve the condition.
The Blue Marine Foundation was founded in 2010 to protect the environment and prevent perils facing the oceans. The Foundation’s mission includes achieving efficient protection of 10 percent of the oceans by 2020, by creating reserves.
