The 4th Global Baku Forum on “Towards a Multipolar World” embarked on its work in the Azerbaijani capital, March 10.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva and Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva attended the Forum’s opening ceremony.

Held with the support of the Nizami Ganjavi International Centre, the 4th Global Baku Forum will this time discuss such pressing issues as the role of interreligious dialogue in preventing conflicts, as well as migration, multiculturalism and integration, and ensuring global security. Moreover, the Forum’s agenda includes issues associated with energy and perspectives of global management.

Joined by presidents of Albania, Montenegro, Bulgaria and Georgia, the Forum is attended by over 300 representatives from 53 countries, including 27 former presidents and 23 former prime ministers.

The Forum was opened by Ismail Serageldin, the director of Egypt’s Library of Alexandria, a co-chair of the Nizami Ganjavi International Centre.

The Head of the Azerbaijani State addressed the event.

Then Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliyev, Albanian President Buyar Nishani and Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili took the floor.

Thereafter, a letter addressed by Great Britain’s Prime Minister David Cameron to the Forum was read by Great Britain’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Irfan Siddig.

After showing video-appeals by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, UNESCO Secretary General Irina Bokova to Forum attendees, former Latvian President, co-chair of the Nizami Ganjavi International Centre Vayra Vike-Freiberga took the floor.
