Family values are deep-rooted in Azerbaijan, and have been passed down from generation to generation since time immemorial. Care of youngsters, and respect for the elderly are cherished traditions in our country.
On the night from the 25th to the 26th February 1992, Armenian aggressors committed a genocide tantamount to the bloodiest tragedies in the world history in Khojaly town of Azerbaijan. 26 years have passed since this tragedy. As a result of this genocide, 613 civilians were mercilessly killed, 106 out of the being women, 63 children, and 70 elderly. 487 people became invalid, 1275 civilians were taken hostage, 150 out of them missing so far, with no information of their whereabouts. 8 families were annihilated totally, 25 children lost both their parents. Each year, the world Azerbaijanis and those respecting justice commemorate the Khojaly genocide victims.
On February 26, thousands of Azerbaijanis gathered before the monument erected in Khatai district to the victims of the tragedy in order to attend the commemoration ceremony on the occasion of the 26thanniversary of the Khojaly genocide.
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the ceremony.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed his esteem for the memory of the genocide victims, putting a wreath before the monument.
First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva put flowers before the monument.
The ceremony was attended by state and government officials, MPs, ministers, heads of committees and companies, heads of religious confessions, as well as Khojaly residents who could manage to flee from this massacre.
